- Supervise your child’s online access
- Not a good idea for your child to have internet access in their room. Keep it where you can see it.
- Use filtering software if necessary
- Understand that ALL filtering software can be bypassed so do not rely on it completely
- Talk to your child and set down rules and guidelines
- Don’t blame them, help them feel comfortable talking about things they encounter
- Sign a contract (both the child & the parent)
- Limit your child’s amount of time online
- Learn how to protect your privacy online
- Protect your computer from viruses and spyware
- Use free or paid Anti-virus and Spyware prevention software
- Make sure your software is updated
- File sharing and music sites are the best places to get infected with a virus or spyware
